The Very Best of Frenemies

Who: Severus & Sirius
When: 6th Year
No one commented on the state of one Severus Snape when he strode purposefully across the Common Room and rushed for the stairs. He flung himself into his bed and charmed the curtains to close so that he could be even more alone than his own purposeful isolation gave him. He could smell Sirius Black on his clothes and he fingers the bruise on his neck with purpose, pushing at it to relive the dull pain and kee it purple. There was something really wrong about that.
No one bothered him all night. Wearing his collar high the next day, Severus ignored the Marauders as he took his seat in Potions. He even ignored the spitballs. No need for detention. He had mushrooms to cataloge after dinner. Remus Lupin's higher voice hit his ears halfway through class: "Paddy, don't even think about it. He's not worth it." Severus turned to glance over his shoulder. His dark eyes met Sirius's. And he turned back around again. No hex. Just a sneer.
Luckily, dinner came quickly after that and, notebook in hand, Severus left early to head out into the woods.
